The Atlantic Rotary Club meets each Tuesday at noon at the Atlantic
Golf & Country Club located on south Chestnut Street in Atlantic.
Visiting Rotarians are welcome. Monthly Board Meetings are held
the second Wednesday at the Family Table beginning at 7:00am. |
Committee/Position Job Descriptions:
New Member Recruitment:
Challenge and motivate the Club to go out and ask people to become new
members. Periodically throughout the year, initiate a competition or
activity that will help us gain new members. Check the
Rotary International
web-site to get ideas. Click on
Membership Development! It is NOT your job to get new members...we
simply need you to keep membership as a "front burner" topic throughout
the year!
New Member Orientation:
The incoming President meets with new members to give them an overview of
R.I. and of our club. This person is assisted by the President and
Secretary who provides necessary materials.
New Member Induction:
The Past President leads the ceremony of inducting our new members into
the Club. This is a special time for all Club members to remember
the roots and purpose of Rotary International and the Atlantic Rotary
Club.
Yearbook: This
person will either take pictures or coordinate picture taking at various
club activities. These pictures will be put into a "scrapbook" and shared
with the Club throughout the year. At the end of the Rotary year, this
scrapbook will be stored within the club history.
Public Relations:
This person will inform the public through the newspaper about upcoming
club meetings, programs, activities, etc. This will be done weekly.
Also, any Club, District or International information that we want to
publicize should go through our Public Relations person.
Family of Rotary Committee:
This committee will assist with club projects and activities in support of
club members and non-Rotarian members of the extended Rotary family. The
committee will also send our condolences to each Rotarian and their family
if there is a death in their immediate family.
Family Picnic: A
fun summer event for Rotarians and their families.
Christmas Brunch: A
Christmas celebration with Rotarians and their families.
Sweetheart Dinner:
A Valentine's dinner with your significant other.
Social Event:
Celebrate the end of another Rotary year. This committee will determine
an enjoyable event for all Rotarians to enjoy. In prior years this has
been a golf outing.
Salute to Agriculture (Farmer's
Recognition): A recognition of the hard working Ag people and
Farmers in our area.
Senior Recognition:
Recognizing the Seniors who have excelled in academics, music, band,
drama, etc. The committee chair should contact the High School Principal
in March to begin planning this program.
Employee Recognition:
A program where Rotarians invite their employees to be recognized by our
Club. All invited guests are introduced by Rotarians. The chair of this
activity should schedule a speaker for this event.
Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards: This committee should make contact with the area
schools and Guidance Counselors in September. Take some promotional
information to each school about this topic. Also, act as the liaison
between our Club and the RYLA committee at the district level.
EMTs/Services:
A new committee that our chapter organized in 2005.
Watermelon Feed:
County Fair: Watermelons are purchased and we serve them at the Fair.
All Rotarians are encouraged to attend and help serve the melons.
Welcome to Atlantic's New
Teachers: This committee will be putting together really nice
gift baskets filled with all kind of helpful items for a new teacher or
resident of Atlantic. Each basket will also have a paperweight, pen set
or something else with a Rotary emblem that the teacher can use in their
classroom! items (business related) can also be donated by Rotarians.
The basket will have Rotary balloons attached and a card signed by all
Rotarians. We will invite teachers to a Tuesday meeting (schedule
permitting) in order to present the baskets. If schedules do not allow
this, we will present the baskets at the school during the first day or
two that teachers report. A picture will be taken for the paper.
Salute to Veterans:
An event to honor our Veterans. This event has included a speaker
and a special video presentation that includes pictures obtained from
Veterans and their families. Invite all Veterans to this event.
Auction: Our only
annual fundraiser. The success of the auction is vital for the many
projects that need Rotary's support. It is never to early to be thinking
of auction items.
4-H and FFA Champions:
See Chairs
Scholarships: This
committee needs to make sure the school has all the information regarding
the Rotary Scholarships by February of each year. Once the applications
are returned, a decision is made as to the individuals who will receive
the scholarships. As a tribute, one of the scholarships is named for Rex
Moorman.
Preschool - Promoting
Literacy: Rotary International has established July as
Literacy month. During this month, R.I. encourages clubs to promote or
get involved in a literacy project within their community. Our Club will
ask the Atlantic Preschool Directors to submit a list of
curriculum/enrichment supplies totaling $500.00. All supplies need to
have a direct educational impact on the students involved in the preschool
programs. While presenting the checks, a picture will be taken explaining
the intent of the program. We will also coordinate a time when Rotarians
can read to the pre-school children.
Festival of Trees:
The committee will register Rotary with the Festival of Trees committee.
They will also be responsible for soliciting help from Rotarians to put up
and take down the Christmas tree. The tree is stored at Daniel's Fine
Jewelry.
Log Cabin Maintenance:
This person(s) will be responsible to do a visual check to the log cabin
and make recommendations to the Club about any repairs or maintenance that
needs to be completed. The cabin should be waterproofed annually.
Domestic Violence:
Another new committee to develop awareness about domestic violence and to
organize support for agencies that work with victims.
Rotary Foundation:
This committee is the liaison between our Club and the Foundation. they will
encourage involvement in the Foundation throughout the year and will
discuss this aspect of Rotary with all new members within the first few
weeks of their start date. This person will also keep us informed about
any new information that relates to the Foundation.
Youth Exchange: The
person who fills this position should probably get a start on this at
least one year in advance. More information is available from the Rotary
Resource Center and
Web-site.
International Project:
The committee will explore opportunities for international poverty
alleviation projects through the Rotary Foundation.
